About Toto

The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name to an entirely different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band a much-needed boost.

In 1999, the band released Mindfields and begin an extensive tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
